🏦 How are CPP and OAS payments delivered?

The vast majority of Canadian pensioners receive their pension benefit via direct deposit into a personal chequing account or savings account. This is the fastest, safest and most reliable method — funds are available in your bank account by the morning of the payment date with no need to visit a branch.

If you still receive your payment by cheque, Service Canada strongly recommends switching to direct deposit to avoid postal delays. You can update your banking information at any time through your My Account on Canada.ca or by calling 1-800-277-9914.

Financial planning tip: with your payment date confirmed, schedule your monthly expenses — rent, utilities, groceries, insurance and any automatic bank transfers — in advance. This helps you manage your monthly budget effectively and avoid unnecessary late payment fees or interest charges.

Your available balance remains in your bank account indefinitely after the direct deposit is processed. There is no requirement to withdraw the full amount on the payment date — choose a time that is convenient for you to avoid queues at ATMs and bank branches.
