There are four official and free ways to confirm your exact State Pension payment dates and verify your pension income details. None require you to visit a Pension Centre in person or share your bank account details with a third party.

💻 1. GOV.UK — Personal Tax Account

Sign in to your Personal Tax Account at gov.uk/personal-tax-account using your Government Gateway user ID. Under “State Pension” you can view your confirmed weekly payment amount, your next payment dates, any deductions applied and the bank account or building society account registered to receive your automatic payment.

You can also use your Personal Tax Account to update your bank account details for DWP payments, check your State Pension forecast and manage your National Insurance record — all without visiting a branch or calling a phone line.

📱 2. HMRC app

Download the free HMRC app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). After signing in with your Government Gateway credentials, you can access your State Pension details, check the bank account registered for your payments and view your recent payment history. The app also lets you update your banking information directly from your phone.

Tip: enable notifications in the HMRC app to receive alerts when your State Pension is credited to your current account or savings account, so you never need to check your balance manually.

📞 3. The Pension Service — 0800 731 7898

Call the Pension Service on 0800 731 7898 (free from landlines and most mobiles), Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. An adviser can confirm your next payment dates, the amount of your pension income and the bank account details registered for your direct credit. Have your National Insurance number and date of birth ready to verify your identity before the call.

For those who are hard of hearing, the textphone number is 0800 731 7339. For Welsh-language speakers, a dedicated line is available at 0800 731 7936.

🏦 4. Bank statement or online banking

Once DWP processes your automatic payment, you can verify the credit through your bank’s mobile app, online banking or at a cash machine. The credit will appear on your bank statement as “DWP STATE PENSION” followed by the amount. Most UK banks — including Barclays, Lloyds, NatWest, HSBC and Santander — process BACS credits overnight, making funds available by early morning on your payment day.

If you bank with a building society or credit union, the process is the same — your available balance will reflect the credit on the morning of your payment day. You can check your balance at any time using your institution’s app, phone banking or at a branch.

Practical tip: set a recurring reminder on your phone four weeks after each payment so you always know when the next one is due. This makes it easy to plan your direct debits, standing orders and grocery budget well ahead of time.
