Protect your grant and avoid payment delays

Protect your personal information: never share your South African ID number, bank account details, Postbank account PIN, SASSA gold card number or any personal information via WhatsApp, Facebook, SMS or unofficial websites. Be immediately suspicious of any message promising to “advance your payment” or “update your banking details” outside of official SASSA channels.

SASSA will never ask for your bank account number or PIN via SMS, WhatsApp or social media. If you receive such a request, report it to the SASSA fraud hotline at 0800 60 10 11 immediately.

Not checking your balance before travelling to a pay point: always verify your available balance via USSD (*120*3210#), the SASSA WhatsApp channel or your bank’s app before making a trip to collect your grant. This avoids unnecessary travel if payment is still processing.

Outdated personal information: if your ID details, address or contact number have changed, update them at a SASSA office as soon as possible. Incorrect personal information can cause delays in processing your monthly grant payment.
